Greenbrier adventures

Quick, quick, what is the worst punishment a wife can inflict on a husband? Is it making the husband spend a few days in a manuscript archive and then forcing him to spend a week with the in-laws and their friends? errr...wrong.

This week we split time between the rare manuscript archives at Duke University and the Greenbrier and had a wonderful time!

Our photos from the trip are here

For those of you who do not know, Duke is located in North Carolina, and the Greenbrier is nestled in the mountains of West Virginia. The Greenbrier is surrounded by beautiful mountains, grass, and people with mullets.

1. Here is Katie studying away on some 300 year old documents

2. Once we arrived at the Greenbrier we played golf on their world-class course. Needless to say, the course was difficult. Below, our gracious host, Mike B. is fishing for a ball they hit into the stream--yikes!

3. After being embarrassed on the golf course, I decided to hit the Sporting Club range, complete with unlimited Titleist XL golf balls. I also got a chance to get golfing lessons from NBA legend Jerry West, who happens to have a place in the area and who happens to be an AMAZING golfer.

4. On the return trip home we stopped by the NRAO, which is a place where they do radio astronomy. The radio telescope on location took ten years to build and the face of the telescope could fit an entire football field--it is a site to see!!!!

Voting with your pocketbook

I've been a fan of Obama for a while, but, to be honest, I haven't really studied his policies--kinda just got swept up in his charisma...

I finally sat down and read the bill that Obama is endorsing--if he supports this, then I support McCain. This huge tax bill has very direct effects on me and has a good chance of stunting the US economy even further. The bill targets the investment management industry and really lays it on thick.

Bolton Family Reunion 2008

UPDATE:
My mom posted her photos here

Katie and I just returned from a family reunion in the beautiful hills of New Mexico. Along the way we had some great adventures.

You will find all the photos here (Aaron collected photos from various sources and handed them off to me)

The main festivities took place in the mountains west of Santa Fe at a camp near Ponderosa.

Our first detour was to play golf on Kirtland Air Force base with my aunts, uncles, and cousins...and EVEN KATIE! Yes, she now has the golf bug--yipee!

1. Golfing..

2. After golfing we made our way up to visit the family reunion...they were a little odd at first...here is Aaron with something in his nose..yikes!

Luckily, there were normal people like my little cousin Zane who was pretty normal!

3. Our next trip was to visit Jemez Falls.

In NM it's legal to drive in the back if your over 18...nice and cooooool...

Here I am climbing down the mini-falls

This is my cousin Natalie surfing on my other cousin Aaron--weird!

4. Next we had a boccie ball tournament...Steve and my Grandpa Wes won easily

5. We went on a small hike near the camp called the "Labyrinth." Below, my cousin Erin is climbing on all the cool rock formations

6. Finally, after 4 days of fun with the family my Grandma Glenda took us on a tour of old town Albuquerque to visit some shops before we flew home to Baltimore...they stood below the "old broad's" coffee shop sign.
